Chemical fertilizer plays a critical role in the world’s food security. Global demand for fertilizer will remain strong. A growing population will require their minimum daily diet that will ensure fertilizer consumption will continue and will increase.
Global Population Trend
The world population has increased from 7.38 billion in 2015 to 7.87 billion in 2021, with a growth rate of 1.06 percent per annum, however global population growth rate has declined from 2.2 percent per year 50 years ago to 1.06 percent per year. Asia contributes highest i.e. 59 percent of total global population, more than the rest of continents.
Country wise World Population 2021
India is most populous country in the world, after China. India will cross China and will become as the world’s most populous country by 2027, according to a UN report in 2019.
Global Population and Fertilizer Nutrient Consumption
The world demand for the food will continue to increase according to growth rate of
World population. Fertilizer plays a key role in food security. Fertilizer use to increase
Global crop production and to maintain soil fertility which is essential and help to increasing food production. Major three Nutrients (N P & K) consumption is increasing @1.43 percent growth rate per annum, however world population growing @1.06 percent per annum. A long-term strategy is required for India, for fertilizer considering all these aspects: population growth, crop production & its demand and nutrient production and its demand according to population.
