Based on the recent amendment in the urea import policy by the Government of India on 22nd March 2023, it has been decided that the designated State Trading Enterprises (STEs) or authorized fertiliser marketing entities can import urea for agriculture purposes, subject to the conditions mentioned in para 2.20 of foreign trade policy 2015-20.
Moreover, technical grade urea (TGU) meant for non-agriculture purposes such as industrial use or NPKs manufacturing, can be imported freely.
As per the amendment, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) and National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) are also permitted to import urea subject to the same conditions mentioned in para 2.20 of the foreign trade policy. Additionally, import of urea through Indian Potash Limited (IPL) is also allowed for a limited period until 31.03.2024.
